SpringSource and VMware teaming up to take over the APaaS market

August 10th was a very exiting day.

An open source company which products have been the center of my work for the past 3 years, has been purchased by the Virtualization monster VMWare for 420 million$. Who said fully open source models couldn't work?

So this Spring java framework giant, that nobody heard about outside the java community, overnight becomes a huge player in the next big hype of the information technology world. Paas (Platform as a Service), competing with Oracle/Sun, Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine.

Gartner goes beyond calling it a application-platform-as-a-service (APaaS) technology portfolio. ( see the Gartner analysis )
